Oil Paint Comparison 2 of 3

In this, the second post in this series regarding paint quality, I have compared three artists' oil paint brands.  Left to right, they are Winsor & Newton, Grumbacher, and Gamblin.  The color I tested was Viridian.

I found that the Winsor & Newton was the least shiny/glossy when placed next to the other two brands, as you can see in the closeup photo.  In fact, Gamblin's Viridian was not only the glossiest but the green color was actually the least intense as well.

When I used these paints, I found it considerably more challenging to get a shade of green that I was trying to obtain.  I attribute this to less pigment and more binder that Grumbacher and Gamblin contained out of the tube.

I do have to add that Winsor & Newton is the most expensive of the three paints but I have always bought the best paint I can afford, because it eliminates the struggle that you start off with if the paint that is coming out of the tube is already "muddied," for the lack of a better term.  Just my two cents.
