Sunflower Wall Hanging (part 2 of 3)

Part 2: Making and adding petals

This is the second of 3 posts with steps to create a sunflower wall decor item from natural materials.  Please see my previous post for previous steps 1-4.  In this post, we are starting step 5.

Here are photos from having finished step 4 in my previous post.

5.  Using a sharpie marker, draw an upside-down V shape on the point end of the corn husk.  Using scissors, cut on your lines to cut out the shape.

6.  Tear (or cutwith scissors) straight down the center of the husk from the v-shape to produce two "petals" from one husk.

7.  Take one of your "petals" and simply tear (or cut) from the point all the way down the length of the petal, tearing it in half lengthwise to create another narrower petal.  You can skip this step if you want only wide petals, otherwise this will provide you with a variety of petal widths.

My petals are all cut and/or torn to differing widths.

8.  Using hot glue, apply 2 glue lines over 2 inches of the flat end on your petals and press them onto the 8" acorn-capped circle about  1 1/2" from the edge, continuing all the way around the edge of the circle as in the photo.

9.  Once you are done hot-gluing one complete layer of petals onto your cardboard circle, continue adding subsequent layers of petals until the desired amount of fullness has been achieved.

See my next post to complete the sunflower wall craft!
