After considerable time, research, and effort, I finished a crossbody purse. It measures about 12"x12" and has a strap of about 45". I used a 5mm wide cotton, 3-stranded cord by Yarn Bee, called Braided Basics, in Light Beige (3 skeins) and Petrol Blue (1 skein) that I found at Hobby Lobby. Each skein cost $4.99 and I used 5 skeins, so 20 bucks.
I also lined my purse with some contrasting batik cotton fabric, first sewing the lining together on my sewing machine, and then hand sewing it into the shell of the purse. I added a magnetic clasp before sewing it into the shell.
I had lots of problem-solving opportunities present themselves, one of which was about how to manage the considerably long cords I was working with. In the pics below, you can see what I did. The entire project took 18 to 20 hours total. Whew! But I'm happy with the results and wanted to share them here.
