Macrame Sandals DIY

Here are some macrame flip flops I made, or thongs, as they were called back in the 1970's when I was a kid!  I used a dollar store pair of them, took the straps carefully off through each of the holes, 2-part epoxied thin leather to the tops, and cut around the outsides of the sandals after they were bone dry.

Next, I re-opened the 3 existing holes and reinserted the straps.  If you try this, be VERY careful when re-inserting the straps so as not to tear the bottom of your sandal!  I got a few very slight tears around a couple of the holes which I repaired with E-6000 glue.

Finally, I macrame-ed around the straps.  I used 8 - (80 inch) strands of 3mm cotton cord from Hobby Lobby on EACH sandal.  My steps are listed in the pics below.  But you have to know how to add cords as you are working in order to do this project.

Other than that, I've included steps in the photos.  Some are hard to see but it was the quickest and easiest way for me to document this project as I went along because this was the first time I attempted something like this.  Feel free to email me if you have any questions!

My dollar store macrame board!  It's a gardening kneeler.  I cut a second hole on the left as marked.

Whew!  Done.
